The government's attack on pedophiles and people supporting them reached new heights. It had been a few years after the first scarlet letters were issued. At first only sex offenders were targeted. New laws required them to have identifying marks in their ID documents. They were removed from most of society by barring them from living near places that are frequented by children. Also it's forbidden to form groups.
As the laws were issued most sex offenders complied, only to be attacked for doing exactly what they're ordered to do. People started accusing them of staying away for nefarious purposes. Other people banded together and stopped random persons to demand their IDs. The unlucky ones who refused or who were found to have the dreaded pedo-signs were beaten heavily. A couple of people died on the way to the hospital, but weren't pitied. People thought the refusers had it coming. The few voices trying to speak up against these crimes were quickly hushed as it was bad to be pro-pedo.
Next came the laws that required non-offending pedos to be registered and monitored. "The invisible danger" as pedos were called had to be dragged into the light. The fact that they looked so much like normal people was a sign of their deviance. Needless to say, only the weak of will volunteered to be tagged like cattle.
"Being a pedo" was now illegal and people could be sentenced up to 20 years in prison when found out. More often the jailed died after a few years, almost all by strange and inexplicable accidents. One could be accused of "being a pedo" by looking at children too long or behaving strangely among children. Sometimes even being near children a bit too often could be cause of suspicion.
Within a few years the effects became noticeable. As the laws were focussed mainly on men it were men who were hit hardest. They started to avoid children. Males slowly removed themselves from jobs that bring them into frequent contact with children, like teaching jobs or paediatrics. Fathers became distant and stern. Hugs, kisses and other types of affection were traded in for pats on the shoulders at arm-length distance. Contact had to be as minimal as possible.

Blessed be
JB
