DECEMBER 31st, 1999
It was the last day of the millenium, and I was sitting home, typing away on the computer. What should have been a very exciting time for me as just antoher day. The only thing that I had to look forward to was that Justin and Ryan would be coming over for the huge new-years-eve party my parents were going to be having.
Jarod and Ryan I had met about four or five months ago. Justin is 6, and one of the cuttiest kids you have ever seen... the kind that you just want to hug, and never let go... He is also the one that I've been spending the most time with whenever they come over... his brother Ryan is 11. He's more out-door, sports, army type kid, still very lovable. Over the last month or two Justin and Ryan along with their parents, have been coming over very regularly. I'm also pleased to say that their parents love me as well... they look at me as both Ryan and Justin's serigate big-brother, a role that I'm only too eager to fill.
It was getting closer to the time for the party to start, and I was looking forward to cuddling up with Justin and playing some video games on the computer, or watching a movie or something like that. However, I was not expecting some new faces to show up as well!
Our neighbors from down the street, who have been friends of ours for atleast 4 or 5 years now also decided to come to the party, and they brought their grand-kids with them, Zac and Jacob. Incidently, Their father was closer to my age, and of which I had some additional interesting adventures many many years before, which one day I will get around to writing about... Anyway, I'm not sure exactly what it was, but there was something about Zac that I could not put my finger on...
As it turned out, Zac was 7, but born very very pre-mature, and had several health related problems when he was younger... he was also very small, and very active! not to mention very attention demanding, but at the same time, in high need of some affection. I knew very early in the night, that I would need to spend most of my time with Zac, heeping him in order and under control... This definatly took away from my planned Justin time, but I think Justin, even at his young age, understood there was something different about Zac, and that without saying, gave me permission to pay more attention to Zac.
we still got to play our games, and eventually got to watch our movie, but most of the time I was having to hold on Zac (or flip him upside down, or trying to stop him from beating up on the rest of the kids, although I doubt his little punches amounted to much".
As it got closer to midnight everyone was gathering in the main room to watch the ball get ready to drop. Zac ran over to jump in my hands, as the minutes quickly turned to seconds... I'll never forget that moment... leading up to the midnight, everyone in the room talking and cheering, being surrounded by friends, and holding a very lovable and sweet boy in my arms... What I had first thought would be a dull and boring evening, had turned out to be a night that I will never forget, and will always be special for me.
Finally, the moment arrived, and everyone cheered! afterward, most of the kids, along with a few older kids went out to shoot off fireworks. Zac on the other hand wanted to go and watch more of the movie... so off we went, just Zac and myself... I got back into the chair I was sitting in, and Zac crawled up to cuddle up next to me....
Eventually it was time to go, I bid Zac, and his brother Jacob goodbye, as they headed home.... Then it was Justin and Ryan's turn to leave... Before leaving, Justin pulled me over to the side, and grabbed my shirt forcing me to bend down closer to him where he whispered into my ear, "next week... your mine!", and with a hug fro m him, and one from Ryan they were off as well.
That's basically how the evening ended. I was pleased to make another new friend that night, although I will probably never see Zac again, the memory from that night will always be with me, and I could not have thought of any other way that I would have rather spent the last night of the millenium doing..
