Hiya. I have posted here before, though it has been a loong time. Anyway, several years ago, I had to write a parody of Robert Creely's "Ballad of a Despairing Husband". I was just beginning to realize how MUCH I loved the boys I was with (two in particular :-)), and couldn't stand to be away from them for weeks at a time, while I was at college. So, that was what I was feeling when I got the assignment (for which I got an A). Here it is:

Ballad of a Lonely Boy

My thoughts and I were all alone,
confusion in a crowded home.
I strengthened will, but gave no ground,
and wars were fought under barrow mounds.

I hope I acted none too late
to save a boy from my lonely fate,
My restless nights are filled with fear
of the silence around my peer.

Do ya hafta leave, he questions me.
I'll be back soon, I vow I'll be.
Have strength of heart, why can't I stay?
To make boys sorrow is not my way.

Be sure I love him, as my own.
He is family where spirits roam.
I only hope that I can go
Back quickly to his loving glow.

Good sir, look out, the path is rough,
and fraught with perils that make hearts tough.
Good sir, look out, a beast is near
who's rumor turns some men to fear.

My friend, my friend-I promise you,
I'll always be here to help you through.
I'll never tire, it's part of me
as much and more as life can be.

The time may come, as with most men,
that childhood fades, replaced with sin.
Yet I do not fear that killing stroke
who's blade is dulled by my love's cloak.

And you can face the world with might!
And you can love, with uncurbed life!
I'll be with you, my younger friend,
In memory untouched by time's cold wind.

Is this the way I wish to live?
Is this the only gift I give
to you who makes me want so much-
and only able to give as such?

No way. You're wrong. I'll find a way,
and if he needs me? Of course I'll stay.
And if he leaves me, I'll be alright...

Oh beautiful boy, swimming or playing or wrestling me.
Oh beautiful boy, you smile and laugh for all to see.
Oh most beautiful boy, whether stressed or unstressed or almost.
Oh most beautiful boy, acting or singing or playing host.

Oh fairest of boys, no angel could be as bright, as generous, as comely as you.
Oh fairest of boys, be you happy or somewhat depressed, angry, or tired.
Oh most fairest of boys, hugging forever, laughing forever, living forever.
Oh most fairest of boys, in life, on earth, in all the heavens.

Oh boy, wait for me,
Please, to be with thee.

If you want to read the explanation I had to write as part of the assignment, I will gladly post it, lemme know.
